Rupert Murdoch, the founder of Fox News and head of its parent company, News Corp., says it’s time for a ban on automatic weapons. While Murdoch’s Fox News channel was blaming the Newtown, Connecticut massacre on removing God and prayer from schools, and advocating for more guns and the arming of teachers and other school officials, Murdoch took to Twitter and asked, “When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons?”
Terrible news today. When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons? As in Oz after similar tragedy.

Murdoch’s “Oz” comment refers to a gun ban in Australia that has led to zero mass shootings since its implementation. Murdoch has advocated for gun bans before, like when 12 people were shot to death in July’s Aurora, Colorado shooting:
We have to do something about gun controls. Police license okay for hunting rifle or pistol for anyone without crim or pscho record. No more

Well……Automatic weapons have been banned since 1986. And Australia's gun crimes went up after their ban. Anymore bright ideas?
Banning weapons won't stop insane people from flipping their shit and committing murder. If the guy had been lobbing Molotov cocktails, would he be calling for a ban on flammable liquids, glass bottles, fabric scraps, and matches?
Arming teachers isn't the answer either. There is no safe way to store a gun in a room full of small children that would also allow a teacher quick access to it in case of an emergency. If those teachers had had guns stored in locked safeboxes, and ammo stored in separate locked safeboxes (which is how law enforcement recommends storing them), by the time they could have unlocked the cabinet, unlocked the gun, unlocked the ammo, and loaded the gun, all while trying to keep a roomful of panicky children calm, it would have been too late.
