San Francisco 49ers’ Chris Culliver has now released a statement in which he apologizes for his anti-gay comments, claiming that those “discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart.”
Culliver’s original comments:
“I don’t do the gay guys man. I don’t do that, no. No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, you know, they gotta get up out of here if they do. Can’t be with that sweet stuff. Nah … can’t be in the locker room. Nah.”
Culliver’s apology:
“The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel. It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience.”
Sports Illustrated senior writer Jim Trotter, who tweeted the apology, adds, via Twitter:
is there anyone who believes this statement came from culliver’s heart? didn’t think so.

bull excrement.
His original remarks were very negative and even hostile. I can't see how he has a COMPLETE change of heart barely a day later. People who are that homophobic don't change that quickly. They just don't. I have a feeling that his coach told him to do it or he'd face the consequences like losing a lot of money. That's usually the best motivator. You can tell what he said on Tuesday was in his own words with his own emphasis. The apology seemed like he was reading something someone else wrote. I'm not buying it either.
they prbly do come from the heart — if he carries it in his hip pocket. Word is that he got a reprimand from team management, perhaps with a warning that such behavior would carry fines in the future.
This cretin has already demonstrated what is in his heart, as well as his mastery of the English language, neither of which are seen within this "apology" which was obviously just written for him to parrot back to the media.
It has taken me seeing his 'apology' in print to realize just how naive his publicity crew are.
