Republican Congressman Allen West this week on several occasions told President Barack Obama to stay out of his district, Southern Florida, and labeled him arrogant, said his “true intent” is “blatant class hatred” and claimed the President has a “distorted socialist vision of fairness.” Last year, Congressman West told President Obama and Nancy Pelosi to “get the hell out of the United States of America.” He later denied it, but the video of his comments were published on YouTube.
Rep. West, who made headlines yesterday for his offensive, false, slanderous and ludicrous claims that there are “about 78 to 81 members of the Democrat Party who are members of the Communist Party,” in his standard one-two punch media tactic, Monday via Twitter wrote:
Pres in S. Fl 2day using same 1 percenters for $ that he attacks. Turn airplane back to DC, we in FL can do w/out you
Tuesday via Twitter Congressman West added, “I asked Pres to stay in DC & not use S. FL as venue to spread his rhetoric. His arrogance led him 2 not take my advice,” and linked to his Facebook note that republished a copyrighted Wall Street Journal editorial.
“Yesterday I asked the President to stay in Washington DC and not use South Florida as a venue to spread his socioeconomic rhetoric…..his arrogance led him to not take my advice. Hat tip to the WSJ for exposing the President’s true intent, blatant class hatred exemplified in some distorted socialist vision of fairness,” Congressman Allen West’s Facebook note stated.
Last week, West wrote via Twitter, “President Obama’s recent rhetorical rants over past two days are not indicative of a confident incumbent President…,” and “Disciples of Saul Alinsky are preparing onslaught against nation’s highest court, typical Chicago style intimidation.”
Meanwhile, late yesterday, Politico reported that a “top official of the Communist Party USA on Wednesday ripped Rep. Allen West’s ’sad ploy’ for claiming that as many as 80 Democratic members of the House are communists.”
“I just think it’s an absurd way to cast a shadow over his colleagues. It’s kind of a sad ploy,” Libero Della Piana, a vice-chairman of the national Communist Party, said of the Florida Republican’s charge that about 80 House Democrats were members of the radical party.
“It’s just guilt by association taken to an extreme,” he told POLITICO. He also said there are no members of Congress who are members of the Communist Party – not even avowed socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
“I think a lot of Americans were opened up the idea of socialism because of the tea party’s attack on it,” he said. “I think they put it back on the agenda. By attacking every policy initiative of the president as socialism, they put it back in the public debate… it wasn’t exactly something the average American was talking about before that.”
Of course, as The Daily Caller reported, also late yesterday the Allen West campaign attempted to walk back their boss’s false claim, by saying… wait for it…
“One stupid reporter with a local publication misquoted the entire thing, and they all jumped on one press account without verifying,” said [West campaign manager Tim] Edson. ”It’s all typical west wing marching orders for their friends in the press.”
Yes, West was misquoted and it’s Obama’s fault!
Noting “it’s troubling to be called a communist. But in a strange twist, it might be worse to be called a McCarthyite,” The Washington Post adds:
“Communist” was once a potent word, especially when used to describe someone you disliked.
But like the hot rod, the D. A., and the word “daddy-o” as a form of address, it’s lost a lot of its punch since the 1950s.
Is it possible Allen West is delusional?
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend President Obama’s address on speech at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. I had tickets that let me get up to the rope line and shake hands with the President.
But as I looked around the auditorium, I was shocked to see Angela West, Congressman Allen West’s wife, in the audience. Within the last 2 years, Governor Rick Scott appointed Angela to Florida Atlantic University’s Board of Trustees. So given this was an official visit and not a campaign visit, it would be appropriate for her to be present.
Throughout the entire speech, Angela was constantly making faces and arguing against the President’s points to her fellow trustee to her right.
She was an absolute sourpuss.
You don’t remember Angela West?
Last summer, Angela West, a political appointed of Governor Rick Scott, joined with her husband in attacking gay people by calling them “intolerant,” after her husband was uninvited from a speaking engagement at local Florida business owners’ group. She then outed a lesbian and her partner, a Sergeant in the military — by name — holding them up as her and her husband’s friends. You’ll remember, is was last summer, before the DADT repeal went into effect.
