Bryan Fischer, in his latest screed, says that the “homosexual activists” who attack him for his hate speech and lies against the LGBT community are committing a “hate crime.” Another right wing example of twisting the truth.
Last week, Bryan Fischer, the public face of the certified hate group American Family Association (AFA), asked, “How did the Nazi party come into being?”
“The Nazi Party ladies and gentlemen, was formed in a gay bar in Munich and historians agree that Hitler’s earliest enforcers, the Storm Troopers, the Brown Shirts, were almost without exception, homosexuals,” Fischer answered. “So it was homosexual thugs that helped Hitler to form the Nazi party.”
Fischer, technically the Director of Issues Analysis for the AFA, hosts a radio show heard in 40 U.S. states, via 180+ Christian radio stations.
Last month, Fischer said, “ladies and gentlemen, they are Nazis. Homosexual activists,when it comes to freedom of speech, are Nazis. When it comes to freedom of religion, they areNazis. There is no room in their world dissent, there is no room in their world for disagreement, there is no room in their world for criticism. You criticize homosexual behavior, they tag you as a bigot and a homophobe and then they got to work to silence you just like the Roman Catholic Church did in the days of Galileo — it’s no different; it’s the Spanish Inquisition all over again.
“Ladies and gentlemen, they are Nazis. Do not be under any illusions about what homosexual activists will do with your freedoms and your religion if they have the opportunity. They’ll do the same thing to you that the Nazis did to their opponents in Nazi Germany.’”
Two weeks ago Fischer stated that Christian United States military officers are about to become victims of “systematic hate crimes,” “one hate crime after another,” perpetrated by the “homosexual lobby,” when Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is finally repealed. Fischer falsely states that “homosexuals” will commit “virtual genocide” of U.S. military officers “who have deeply-held religious convictions about the acceptability of homosexual behavior.”
And just last week, Fischer claimed that once DADT is repealed, neither gays nor straights will sign up for military service, which will force a nationwide draft in America, and then homosexual soldiers will work to get DADT reinstated, “so they can get their get of out jail free card.”
All of which would be rather amusing, if it weren’t so disgusting, false, and hate-filled. Oh, and just as a reminder, yesterday, Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates said he sees Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal certification this month, with almost zero problems.

First of all, to be a hate crime it has to be a crime. Hate crime is a label attached to certain crimes based on their motive, it is not itself a criminal act. A murder can be a hate crime, or a robbery, but criticism, while it might be hate-based, can not be a hate-crime unless the speech is threatening or slanderous.
And secondly, targeting you based on your individual behavior, even if it was a crime, would be almost exactly the opposite of a hate crime.
