Bryan Fischer, speaking for the American Family Association, yesterday told his million-or-so listeners that they want to take America’s laws, and social and public policy back to the Book of Genesis. Fischer, one of the most-outspoken homophobes among the radical religious right, has called gays “Nazis,” and recently advocated for an underground railroad to steal children away from same-sex parents.

The American Family Association is a Southern Poverty Law Center-certified anti-gay hate group, whether they like it or not.

“Fischer took issue with President Obama’s recent claim that the Republican Party’s agenda is so dated and retrograde that that it was the sort of thing one would have seen ‘on a black-and-white TV’,” Kyle Mantyla at Right Wing Watch explains:

It is not that Republicans are trying to take America back to the days of black-and-white TV, Fischer declared, because they want to go even further back than that … all the way to the Book of Genesis and the Garden of Eden!

And that is because any nation that supports things like marriage equality or the right to choose is bound to suffer the wrath of God.

Right Wing Watch published this video and transcript:

FISCHER: You know, Barack Obama is out there, or the Democrats are out there, saying we want to go back, saying Republicans want to take us back to the days of black-and-white TV, that’s what Barack Obama says.

And I say no, we’re going way, way, way back further than that; we are going all the way to the dawn of creation. God is the one who created us male and female; God is the one who formed marriage, who created marriage, who designed it to be a union of one man and one woman for life. So we’re going way past the 1950s; we’re going clear back to the Garden of Eden.

Now I contend that we shed innocent blood and we honor sexual perversity to our national peril. This is not an incidental thing; it puts our nation in grave danger of the judgment of God. If we shed innocent blood and we embrace sexual deviancy, this will bring the judgment of God upon any nation that approves of those behaviors and gives them special protection in laws.

Is there really any difference between Bryan Fischer and the radical right wing religious extremists in America, and, say, the policies and propaganda coming from Iran? Stay tuned.

Whenever I hear this idiot talking, I think of the people that used to hunt and burn witches.

I'll bet he would be the type to threaten to put out Galileo's eyes for seeing something that he failed to understand.

This man serves mammon and mammon alone.

It's quite sad that Bryan Fischer has an audience at all. His fervent beliefs should be kept to himself inside the walls of a mental institution.

Bryan Fischer is living proof of what happens when mental health screening and treatment funding is cut.

This is why we Need separation of church and state, something these right wing nuts will never understand or accept. Not only freedom OF religion but freedom FROM religion.

It's about time the Religious Right admitted that they wanted to take Jesus out of the equation. None of that "love they neighbor as thyself" crap! It really is all Mine ! Mine! Mine! I'm glad that Fischer finally fessed up to the fact that his religious feelings begin and end in the Book of Genesis!

The fact that this man, and so many others, really believe that an omnipotent god created man and the world is enough evidence to eliminate him from real discussion.

Yes, we SO need to go back to the days of blood sacrifices, selling rape victims to their rapists, and stoning disobedient children at the city gate.
