Post image for Facebook Or Hate Book? Facebook Shuts Down Anti-Gay Hate Groups!

If you visited Facebook this morning, you could have joined “I HATE GAYS,” “Kill All Gays,” and “AnTi GaYs!!!!!!!!!!!!!” — just three examples of many anti-gay hate groups that called Facebook home. But no longer.

This morning, at 11:30 AM EST, I published, “Facebook Or Hate Book?” and listed a total of fifteen anti-gay hate groups that called Facebook home. Tonight, around 8:30 PM, a reader commented, “I noticed many of the links are no longer valid. I hope they are gone for good.” And so I checked. Indeed, he is right! Of the fifteen anti-gay hate groups I spotlighted, all but three are no longer on Facebook. I’d call that a success!

Groups like, “STOP AIDS!!!!! KILL GAYS AN NIGGERS!!!!!!!!!,” “GAY ? news flash : we fuckin’ hate you !!,” and “Ban Same-Sex Marriage” are gone. I can’t promise they are gone for good, but I can say, “Thank you,” to Facebook, and to all you who shared the post via Facebook, Twitter, Buzz, and your own blogs.

The three that are still active?

Keep Queers Out of America

I’m against gay marriage, and I will not keep quiet about it!

and, strangely, join if you hate homosexuals.

Together, we can do something about anti-gay hate groups!

Yesterday, hate-mongering radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh told his 13.5 million dittoheads he was moving to Costa Rica after health care passes. Reader Matt Dean responded by sharing with me the following from Internationalliving.com:
Costa Rica’s Government-Run Health Care System
“With a government-sponsored network of more than 30 hospitals and more than 250 clinics throughout the [...]

Facebook Or Hate Book?

Facebook, the six-year old social networking site that helps more than 350 million friends, families, colleagues, and companies keep in touch, is fast becoming the online home to another type of social network: anti-gay hate groups.
Fast-forming, often created by people who post false profiles just to gain the ability to create their hate group, anti-gay [...]

You say “Ice Dancing,” I say “Gay.”

Chelsea Handler, host of the E! channel’s late night comedy talk show “Chelsea Lately,” today on Twitter wrote,
You say “Ice Dancing,” I say “Gay.”
I have a problem with this, and said so on Twitter. Some folks agreed, some didn’t. Those who didn’t included a gay journalist, which certainly surprised me.
My point is this: It doesn’t [...]

Superbowl Ads: Which Were Your Favorites?

February 8, 2010 9:30 AM by David Badash
Thumbnail image for Superbowl Ads: Which Were Your Favorites?

Based on my Twitter stream, the vast majority of the ads from last night’s Superbowl were perceived as poorly done, sexist, and just plain disappointing. Of course, say what you like about the quality of the Focus On The Family “pro-life” ad, (if Tim Tebow were gay would they have used him?) its subtlety is [...]

Watch: Controversial Superbowl 44 Ads: Two Banned, One Planned

Superbowl 44 was rife with controversy — for the ads. Right-wing hate group “Focus On The Family,” produced a short spot starring outspokenly religious Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and his mother. The ad was planned in cooperation with CBS. The point to remember about the airing of this ad is that it was an [...]

Update: 5:00 PM
Via SCOTUSblog: “Splitting 5-4, the Supreme Court on Wednesday blocked any television broadcast to the general public of the San Francisco federal court challenge to California’s ban on same-sex marriage. The stay will remain in effect until the Court rules on a coming appeal challenging the TV order. The Court, chastizing [...]
