This morning, as promised, Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty signed the Religious Freedom & Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act of 2009 at the All Souls Unitarian Church. Marriage equality, same-sex marriage, gay marriage – whatever you want to call it, today is a great, historic day, not only for the nation’s capital, but for the nation.

Thanks To My Twitter Friends!

December 3, 2009 2:02 AM by David Badash

So many amazing folks shared the excitement and frustration of Wednesday’s gay marriage vote with me. And so many amazing folks supported me. There was no other way to extend my thanks, and to let them know how grateful I am for all they do, than to put include their names here.
Thank you to these wonderful [...]

A Special #SameSexSunday Thank You

July 13, 2009 12:00 AM by David Badash
Thumbnail image for A Special #SameSexSunday Thank You

As you know, it’s been a trying weekend, thanks to the challenges that Perez Hilton created when he published without permission (I would never have given it to him) or proper attribution, my piece, “Does The U.S. Constitution Already Make Gay Marriage Legal?” I received an overwhelming amount of support from so many people on [...]

The Message vs. The Messenger
Let’s be clear. My goal is to get the message out. The message is about the importance of gay rights and gay marriage, the message is about the successes we achieve and the hurdles we have to jump every day. And I like to stick to facts, as much as possible. [...]

West Point grad Lt. Dan Choi, an Iraq War veteran and Arabic linguist, is gay. He came out recently on The Rachel Maddow Show. And today he had his discharge hearing. Because if you’re in the U.S. military, and you’re gay, and you get found out, you get kicked out. That’s the way “Don’t Ask, [...]

The marriage license comes from the courthouse not the church house.

May 22, 2009 12:49 AM by David Badash

The marriage license comes from the courthouse not the church house. “I think folks should take the religious factor out of marriage, or realize that the religious part is a ceremony based on their liking, not a requirement. that’s why the marriage license comes from the courthouse not the church house. When you start to [...]

Thank You, One And All

It’s been a great month for gay rights, gay marriage, and for The New Civil Rights Movement. The month began with the legalization of gay marriage in Iowa, then Vermont, then the recognition of gay marriages in D.C. In the midst of all that, we received a wonderful mention in a [...]

Bill Moves Out Of Committee By A Slim 15-12 Vote

The Federal Hate Crimes Bill is one step closer to reality. Despite the attempts of some Republican House members, like Louie Gohmert (R-TX), or Steve King (R-IA) who tried yesterday “to add ‘immutable characteristics’ such as eye color, hair color – or lack thereof”, and tried [...]
