REPORT: Extremist, Anti-Gay Head of Far Right Wing Think Tank Set to Be Ousted
Heritage Foundation Behind Many of Trump’s Positions and Policies
Right wing anti-gay extremist Jim DeMint is likely to be forced from his role as President of the Heritage Foundation, a far right wing think tank, DeMint, who served in the House then the Senate resigned at the end of 2012 to lead the four-decade old organization.
Politico reports DeMint “may soon be out of a job, following a dispute with board members about the direction of conservative think tank, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.”
The Heritage Foundation is behind many of President Donald Trump’s policies and positions, including his list of Supreme Court nominees. Before DeMint, the conservative organization was much more broadly respected.
DeMint, immediately upon taking the helm, brought in far right extremists whose views were more in keeping with his particular brand of hate-filled religious right and Tea Party activism. His first official public act was the publication of an anti-immigrant report penned by a man who once said: “Decades of psychometric testing has indicated that at least in America, you have Jews with the highest average IQ, usually followed by East Asians, then you have non-Jewish whites, Hispanics, and then blacks.â€
The author, Jason Richwine also argued in his Harvard dissertation “that the IQ of Latino immigrants is too low for them ever to assimilate,” the Daily Beast wrote.
As Politico notes, DeMint’s views and actions apparently haven’t changed.
“Some Heritage board members believe that DeMint has brought in too many Senate allies and made the think tank too bombastic and political — to the detriment of its research and scholarly aims.”
While DeMint’s contract is up at year’s end, Politico says a “GOP operative who works closely with heritage [sic] said DeMint’s removal as president was imminent, and that more changes were expected to follow.”
DeMint during his tenure in the Senate attacked LGBT people, saying a gay president would be “immoral,â€Â LGBT people should not be allowed to teach, and same-sex marriage is “destructive.”
