Franklin Graham Just Went Berserk Over Tonight’s Charlotte LGBT Nondiscrimination Vote
Christian evangelical anti-gay activist unleashes unhinged torrent of ugly attacks in Facebook post ahead of city council vote.
Having moved his family, including his father, Rev. Billy Graham, and their Christian ministry, Samaritan’s Purse, to Charlotte, North Carolina, Franklin Graham now calls the second-largest city in the Southeast home. And Graham is exceptionally agitated that his home city is about to pass an enhancement to its nondiscrimination ordinance, adding LGBT protections to public accommodations laws. Not housing, employment, credit, or education, just public accommodation. In short, allowing transgender folks to use the right restroom.
As NCRM reported just this morning, North Carolina’s GOP Gov. Pat McCrory (photo, left, with Graham) warned the Charlotte city council there would be “immediate” repercussions from the state legislature should they pass the ordinance tonight.
And now, Franklin Graham is once again weighing in, in a manner no one who calls themselves a true Christian would. According to Graham, LGBT people – presumably transgender people especially, given the context – are “pedophiles, perverts, and predators,” and “depraved sexual activists.”
What a difference it could make if we had more officials like council members and mayors who’d stand for morality and biblical principles.

All the bill does is allow transgender people to use the restroom or locker room that most closely conforms to their gender identity.
But to Graham, that is “ludicrous,” “wicked,” and “filthy.”
“It’s really hard to believe that such a ludicrous law would even be seriously considered—and even harder to believe that at least 8 of 11 council members have said they would vote for it!,” the anti-gay Christian activist writes on Facebook.
“Are people just not thinking clearly? This law would allow pedophiles, perverts, and predators into women’s bathrooms. This is wicked and it’s filthy. To think that my granddaughters could go into a restroom and a man be in there exposing himself….what are we setting our children and grandchildren up for? There’s not a public restroom in Charlotte that would be safe!”
Of course, there are laws currently in existence that prohibit men from using women’s restrooms, and vice versa, and of course laws that prohibit people exposing themselves, but to Franklin Graham, somehow this is new territory.
“It should be inconceivable that Charlotte’s mayor and the supporting City Council members have succumbed to the pressures from depraved sexual activists and are willing to put women and girls at risk like this,” he continues, unhinged. “The ordinance was defeated last year, and the mayor shouldn’t have allowed it back on the table. Shame on her.”
Christians must get involved in political process across our country by running for office and by voting.

“This is why it is so important that Christians get involved in the political process across our country by running for office and by voting. What a difference it could make if we had more city council members and mayors who were willing to stand up for morality and biblical principles for our cities and communities. Less than 10% of voters turned out for the last Charlotte mayoral election—that’s just a shame, and look what’s happening as a result.”
Franklin Graham offensively believes that LGBT people are not Chrisitan – about half are – and that people who support LGBT equality also are not Christian, which is incredibly false. In America today, where about seven out of ten people identify as Christian, well over 60 percent support same-sex marriage. Far more support LGBT nondiscrimination protections.
Graham concludes, “I hope Charlotte citizens will come out in droves this evening to gather at 4:45 in front of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Complex Building before the City Council meeting and let the council know without question that they overwhelmingly oppose this!”
Right now, this is what it looks like outside the city council meeting:
