Fired Top GOP Strategist And Senate Staffer Had ‘Hundreds’ Of Child Porn Videos

A top GOP strategist and Republican Senate staffer fired and arrested Wednesday appeared in court yesterday afternoon. According to the government’s criminal complaint, Jesse Ryan Loskarn had “hundreds” of videos of both young girls and young boys on an external hard drive which the government contends he was trying to hide when authorities used a battering ram to enter his Washington, D.C. home.

Loskarn, who until Wednesday earned about $169,000 annually, had been the chief of staff for Tennessee Republican Senator Lamar Alexander since 2011. Previously, he was a leader and top strategist of the Republican Conference, and described as “one of the Senate GOP’s top strategists and aides,” by Roll Call.

Politico, which calls Loskarn “one of the most well-known Hill staffers and an influential policy aide,” reports that a “‘Statement of Facts’ released by the Justice Department on Thursday alleged that Loskarn had been viewing and sharing child pornography with others for several years, a claim that stunned Alexander and Loskarn’s many friends and colleagues on Capitol Hill.”

According to the complaint, Loskarn, 35, made “several purchases” between November 2010 and March 2011 from a Toronto-based movie production company operating a website that offered DVDs via mail and streaming video. The court documents said “the majority of these films featured young nude boys.”

The videos, Politico notes, “included a 28-minute portion of a file of a young girl who was raped in the woods by her ‘father.’”

Federal officials reportedly had been investigating Loskarn for three years.

The Insiders’ Guide to Key Committee Staff of the U.S. Congress described Loskarn in 2009 as “a national spokesman for the party,” and quotes him as saying, “Republicans would be focused in 2009 and beyond on creating jobs, stabilizing the housing market, making sure every American has access to health care, and keeping government growth in check.”
