Gays Respond To “Do Republicans Really Hate Us?”

by David Badash on February 4, 2010

in News,Politics,Polling,Religion

On Tuesday, in the wake of a newly-released Daily Kos/ Research 2000 poll that revealed how hostile to the LGBTQ community Republicans are, I asked, “Gays: Do Republicans Really Hate Us?

And you responded, “yes!”

You can see the most current results below, but as of this writing, with 184 votes,
47% of you said, “yes,” and another 41% chose, “Hate is too strong a word, but essentially, yes.”

I’d call that a pretty solid response.

7% said, “no,” and 5% said, “I’d rather not think of it in those terms.”

Sadly, I think we have to think of it in those terms. And, perhaps, try to change perceptions on the right.

I hate this shit because it's basically pro-Democratic Party propaganda. The Democratic Party certainly doesn't "love" us. Keep in mind some facts: The Obama administration has thus far filed 2 briefs defending DOMA and the IRS under Obama fought against the recognition of sex-reassignment surgery as a medically-necessary treatment. And, of course, we have the Democrats to thank for DOMA and DADT. Are Republicans shitty? Absolutely. But this does not make the Democrats any less homophobic. We must challenge and critize BOTH parties and for fuck's sake, stop voting for the second most homophobic party in this country.

I have no love of either the Democratic or Republican parties when it comes to full equality. They have obstructed, obfuscated, denied us our rights, used our money, our lives and our love as a political football for TWO GENERATIONS since Stonewall. It's time LGBT folk in America litigated every right we deserve as they are guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. Forget politics, go to the Courts.
