GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, who has been rising in the polls rapidly after Herman Cain and Rick Perry‘s scandals and gaffes, says in the candid interview he does not believe in same-sex marriage, gays should be prohibited from adopting, and he would, if president, reinstate Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

For the record, any president, as Commander-In-Chief, can reinstate DADT.

Also, the video opens with a few minutes of Rick Santorum claiming how, when he was a Senator, before experiencing the worst election loss in Pennsylvania history, his fellow Senators were afraid to vote for a marriage amendment. Apparently, Santorum thinks that makes him look good.

I really can't stand the GOP candidates. "I'm trying to say it in a positive way." Why, to sugar-coat it and make it seem like you're *not* a bigot?

"[The military's] there to win wars." Well, I'd say it's for defense first and foremost, unless you're a warmonger and anticipate war… But you're right while we're in a war, that should be its focus… and it is… and always has been… DADT didn't suddenly place gays in the military. Guess what? They've been there all along, and we won wars just fine. There's no "gay agenda" where they're gonna have rainbow parties and "gay it up." Nothing changes regarding the functionality of the military. Every person who serves takes their job seriously, they don't let sexuality, race, gender, or preference of ice cream flavors affect that.

And yeah, I agree, the military should *not* be a social experiment. But when virtually every military member agrees they have no problem serving with those who are LGBT, commanding officers agree there are no downsides to it, and considering sexuality has nothing to do with the military, then why is it so wrong to let them serve openly, as straight people serve openly? Gays aren't gonna rape a same-sex comrade any more than a straight member's gonna rape an opposite-sex one, grow up. You make it an experiment and make it a distraction when you constantly try to make it go back and forth. The progress is here, let it happen and quit trying to tread backwards while the nation moves forward.

And forget "tradition." You can use it as a positive word all you want, but tradition can be a good or bad thing. Like the tradition of owning slaves. The tradition of murdering and going to war. Just because it's tradition doesn't make it okay, and just because you change a tradition doesn't mean it'll be bad. Quit being stuck in your old ways, and quit trying to bring everyone else down as well. This will be a new America soon enough, with new traditions and a new meaning of "equality" which is what our nation *traditionally* stands for. How about *that* tradition?
