U.S. Republican Tea Party congressman Louie Gohmert of Texas says he opposes gun control because he believes that same-sex marriage leads to polygamy and bestiality.
Rep. Gohmert has now unleashed perhaps his most utterly ridiculous attack ever — even more stupid and offensive than his infamous “terror babies” claims, or his total inability to understand how Gmail ads work:
Gohmert participated in a conference call discussing gun control, and lapsed into an incoherent, rambling diatribe about how limiting the number of rounds in a gun clip is the same as not imposing limits on how many people can marry or whom they can marry — including animals.
“I had this discussion with some wonderful, caring Democrats earlier this week on the issue of, well, they said, ‘surely you could agree to limit the number of rounds in a magazine, couldn’t you? How would that be problematic?,’” Gohmert told the conference call members, assembled by Tea Party Unity, a group created by Rick Scarborough of Vision America.
“And I pointed out, well, once you make it ten, then why would you draw the line at ten?,” Gohmert queried. “What’s wrong with nine? Or eleven? And the problem is once you draw that limit ; it’s kind of like marriage when you say it’s not a man and a woman any more, then why not have three men and one woman, or four women and one man, or why not somebody has a love for an animal?”
“There is no clear place to draw the line once you eliminate the traditional marriage and it’s the same once you start putting limits on what guns can be used, then it’s just really easy to have laws that make them all illegal.”
This wasn’t the only topic Gohmert took on during the conference call:
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a sitting U.S. Congressman, a 59-year old adult male who actually has been appointed to serve on the House Committee on the Judiciary, including the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, and the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, as well as the Task Force on Judicial Impeachment.
And he thinks gun control and same-sex marriage are related — and that same-sex marriage is akin to polygamy and bestiality.
Congratulations, Texas, you’ve elected Louie Gohmert five times now.
