GOP Pollster: Gay Marriage “Only A Matter Of Time.”
Politico’s Ben Smith examines the current state of marriage equality in America, and finds what we already know to be true. Same-sex marriage “is a historical inevitability. if for no other reason than the old people will eventually die, and the young people are overwhelmingly in favor of it,” said David Mixner, a veteran gay rights activist.”
Smith writes,
“A Gallup poll from May, for instance, found that 18 to 29 year olds favor same-sex marriage by a margin of 59% to 37%, while people 65 and over oppose it by an even wider margin. And other studies have suggested the support among young voters is broad, and stretches across regions. One recent Columbia University study reported that more than 50% of 18-29 year olds in 38 states support same-sex marriage.”
“It’s only a matter of time,” said a prominent Republican pollster, who declined to be named for stating a view that runs contrary to those of many of his clients. “Once the dam bursts, which is going to happen, it’s a process that won’t be stopped.”
