By an almost two-to-one majority, 58% of Americans say homosexuality should be accepted by society, according to a new Pew poll, which also finds that only one-third of Americans say homosexuality should be discouraged. The study, released earlier this month, finds majorities in almost every demographic say homosexuality should be accepted, including majorities of women (64%), men (52%), Hispanics (64%), Whites (58%), and every age group up until 65+. Support among Blacks came in at 49%.
Majority support among political groups comes from Democrats (67%), and Independents (63%), while a minority of Republicans (40%) say homosexuality should be accepted.
The only major religious group polled that offered majority support was Catholics, at 64%.

I am so ashamed to be Black. I don't think there is another race that harbors hate for others as Blacks. I wonder how more intolerant we'd be if we hadn't passed through slavery? Because after decades of being one of the most oppressed, stereotyped and discriminated group, we find it easy to support inequality. So obviously the few blacks who support equality for all, are the few who understand what it's like to be the subject of hate and discrimination. I pray to God, my black brother and sisters will one day become enlightened and realize that injustice against one is injustice against all. I am happy to see, however, that the majority have seen the light – Gays are a part of God's creation and they deserve a place in the sun.
