Donald Trump has repeatedly — and falsely — warned his supporters about the possibility of voter fraud, claiming the election will be “rigged” and encouraging them to monitor polls in areas that are home to large numbers of African-Americans and Hispanics.Â
So perhaps it’s only fitting that the first widely reported suspected case of voter fraud in the 2016 presidential race involves a Trump supporter who is overtly racist.Â
Terri Lynn Rote, 55, was arrested and charged with first-degree election misconduct after voting early in Des Moines, then trying to cast a second ballot at another location, according to a report in The Des Moines Register.
Rote told Iowa Public Radio she feared her first ballot would be changed to a vote for Hillary Clinton.Â
“I wasn’t planning on doing it twice, it was spur of the moment,” Rote said. “The polls are rigged.”
According to the above tweet, Rote was an early Trump supporter who caucused for him in February. She now faces up to five years in prison. Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald the Register it was the county’s first suspected case of voter fraud in 12 years.Â
According to posts on her Facebook page, Rote is every bit as racist as her preferred presidential candidate.
“You black lives doesn’t matter (sic),†Rote wrote above a report about protests in Charlotte following the fatal police shooting of a black man in September. Â
“They all need to be shot” and “run their assess (sic) over” she wrote of the Charlotte protesters in other posts. Â
