NOM President Issues Statement That Reads Like A Paranoid Child’s Rant, Wants It Both Ways
Carrie Prejean’s short interlude with the National Organization For Marriage and with its President, Maggie Gallagher, left a strong mark – on Maggie. When Prejean uttered her infamous “opposite marriage” statement, defending her position on same-sex marriage, Maggie swooped down and protected poor Prejean – by reportedly violating copyright laws and throwing Carrie in front of the cameras to do Gallagher’s dirty work.
When all that nonsense was over, Prejean, evidently not the world’s best employee, came close to being fired – not for her beliefs on marriage equality, but for semi-nude photos that might have violated her contract, photos some claimed she did not properly disclose, and for some “miscommunication” about where she was supposed to be. You know, stuff like showing up for work. But Donald Trump came to Carrie’s rescue, and, in a press conference that lasted almost as long as Carrie’s reign as Miss California itself, The Don absolved Prejean of all guilt and said, “she’s a nice girl.” That’s nice. Then next day, the Executive Director of Miss California USA resigned.
But before that presser, Maggie used Carrie in a NOM-sponsored video ad to push the “opposite marriage” cause one step further. The day Trump reaffirmed Prejean’s right to continue wearing the California crown, Maggie, not wanting to upstage her debutante protégé, called it in and proclaimed that day, Carrie’s Day. In fact, Gallagher said that day, “I’m so happy for Carrie. Thank you Donald Trump for doing the right thing by Carrie.” Well, Trump is the one who fired Carrie today, Maggie. Didn’t he do the right thing today also? Really, Maggie, you can’t have it both ways.

“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
JUNE 10, 2009CONTACT:
Elizabeth Ray, x130 or Mary Beth Hutchins, x105 at 703-683-5004THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MARRIAGE RESPONDS TO THE FIRING OF MISS CALIFORNIA USA CARRIE PREJEAN:
(Princeton, NJ) – Today, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) issued the following statement in response to the firing Miss California USA Carrie Prejean:
“Hollywood hates Carrie. First they abuse her, then they try to get her to recant, then they threw mud, and now they are doing what they wanted to do from day one: Get rid of Carrie.
This cover story about a contract dispute doesn’t pass the smell test. Americans aren’t fooled that easily. God knows, and we know, the truth about Carrie: She’s a young woman of great beauty who chose truth over the glittering tiara that Hollywood offers,” said Brian Brown, Executive Director for NOM. “Of course they will try to punish her, but we know she will be fine in the end, because her values are in the right place.”
“Hollywood will dance its tribal war dance over her body–the hatred generated against her has been extraordinary–but Carrie will be free to define her own mission and message from now on. Congratulations,” stated Maggie Gallagher, President for NOM.

Maggie Gallagher has really lost it, and, frankly, it's a bit fun to watch her and NOM implode as the weeks go by. She's still trying to cast homophobes as an unfairly demonized group as always, but her desperate pronouncements sound less credible than ever before.
It's clear to anyone paying attention that Prejean's firing has little to do with her (ridiculous) beliefs and everything to do with her unwillingness to uphold her obligations to the pageant. Let's not forget the support that Prejean got right after her idiotic statements, especially from those who felt that Perez Hilton had gone too far in retaliation. Even the pageant organizers who disagreed with her were initially willing to work with her, but she was more interested in promoting her religious agenda than in performing her duties as Miss California.
And so it goes.

Totally agreed. Gotta love the spin doctors of NOM making their desperate attempts to turn Prejean's firing into something it's not.
Now, just playing devil's advocate for a second, it's a tough call if her failure to fulfill her obligations to the pagaent would be an issue if not for Perez Hilton's remarks and his massive and dedicated fan-base — this calling out of his seems to have played a small part in this, but Prejean's opinion ultimately has practically nothing to do with why she was fired. For all practical purposes, she was fired because of obligations she agreed to and then didn't fulfill, because she didn't disclose topless modelling work to pagaent officials, and because she treated those she was working with like crap. Even if you squint, it's hard to look at the facts and see what Mrs. Gallagher sees.

Hey, Lee! Great points!
It just makes zero sense to me that Gallagher would stick her nose in here. Prejean obviously was fired "for cause", for not doing her job. For Gallagher to twist the facts makes her sound like, well, someone out of touch and unable to grasp hold of what's really happening in the world.
But isn't Maggie infamous for twisting facts? No matter why Carrie was let go, Maggie is going to make it sound like it had everything to do with her opposite sex marriage answer.
If you really want to tell Gallagher what you think – you can reach her here on FB:

Donald Trump is a scumbag of the highest order. These pageants used to be family television — but now who would want their family to see and hear a foulmouthed cockroach like that Perez Hilton using the C word on TV when talking about one of the contestants? The pageants have no more class. Trump has no class for allowing this. I'm glad Carrie will disassociate herself from these lowlife pop culture monsters who have no tolerance for anyone's views but their own.
Pageants never had the "class" you speak of. Miss America (yes, I realise it's different from Miss U$A) started as a tourist attraction for Atlantic City, New Jersey in the 1920s and to exploit the "new fashions" of the day and the "new and obscene" 1920s ladies' swimsuits that finally bared women's legs. Family entertainment? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! For a very brief fifteen- or twenty-year period, they put up that illusion, but it's about making money through advertisers and giving spectators as much T&A as they can legally get away with.
