Maggie Gallagher: ‘The Obama Electorate Defeated Marriage’

Post image for Maggie Gallagher: ‘The Obama Electorate Defeated Marriage’

Maggie Gallagher at 3:00 AM today announced that the “Obama electorate defeated marriage.” Gallagher, co-founder of NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, and all her right wing radical religious zealots, suffered what clearly is the worst loss in modern history for anti-gay marriage crusaders.

“Last night really is a big loss, no way to spin it,” she writes at the home of racism disguised as intellectual elitism, the National Review — where John Derbyshire and others used to make their living while peddling their anti-minorities hatred elsewhere.

And for once, Maggie is right. There is “no way to spin it.” Maggie Gallagher, Robert P. George, John Eastman, Brian Brown, NOM, the Catholic Church, the Mormon Church, the Knights of Columbus, The Bradley Foundation, and so many others were handed their hats and told to go home by voters in four states.

Of course, Gallagher is spinning it. “Real America” didn’t vote for same-sex marriage, just those who showed up: “The Obama electorate.”

“Real America,” in Gallagher’s eyes, stayed home.

Gallagher also warned that conservatives must “figure out how to win a much larger share of the Latino vote or the conservative movement could be over.” Well, good luck getting there.

The “truce” — Rove’s Crossroads strategy — is a clear failure. I think social issues are part, but only part, of a serious effort to appeal to Latino voters. We also need to show them we care about them by doing something about the DREAM Act, and religious conservatives should take the lead on this.

Why religious conservatives? Why must Gallagher slice and dice America into classifications? Why not say, “the DREAM Act is the right thing to do for human beings?”

“We were outspent eight-to-one — and no one was willing to speak for marriage, while the whole Democratic establishment and Hollywood campaigned for marriage,” she laments. Of course, no one actually believes those numbers. Gallagher and NOM have more cash than you or I could ever imagine. I’d say than God, but since the vast majority of their secret funding comes from that general direction (think, the Vatican and LDS) , well…

Again, “real America,” which does not include “the whole Democratic establishment and Hollywood” stayed home, didn’t vote, didn’t show up.

Gallagher and her anti-gay homophobic bigoted ilk will never, ever accept the fact that the real America did vote. And won.

What an awful, awful woman and organization

If the "real America" couldn't be bothered to even vote, I'm proud to be a part of the "other America".

“Real America,” in Gallagher’s eyes, stayed home.

Some one needs to ask Maggie why they stayed home. With all of their money, why didn't Maggie and her band of sad-sack idiots get them to the polls? Because you're a failure, Maggie!!

I had no idea that if you outspend your opponent, you automatically win. Romney did that, and he lost. I'm also not sure how you manipulate people into voting for something that they don't support. That doesn't ever happen, Maggie. The reality is, NOM's lies don't work anymore, and the public isn't going to support discrimination aimed at gay Americans. Perhaps Maggie can find a new job as an ice cream taster at Baskin Robbins? I hear their new flavor Bigoted Bile is right up her alley.

Wow! That horrible woman looks like a thumb with a wig and glasses on!

"Obama electorate defeated marriage"? No my dear, we took back what you endeavored to take away. We're still undoing your damage here in CA, but I'm glad the rest of the nation showed you and your nasty agenda to the door. My advice to you: quit now or brace yourself for more and bigger defeats. America is sick of the ugly words and regressive politics of you and your bigoted cronies.

Marriage was defeated by the Obama election? If that's the case, why are all the people I know who were married before the election still married? I don't know of one single marriage that was dissolved due to the election results.

Looking at her picture makes me want to vomit.

Is she married? If so, is that poor guy blind and deaf to what this … woman (?) is doing???

Maybe we should vote on these groups allowance to marry and then if it fails, tell them they are all divorced and get NO benefits! Bet you they'd change their tune real quick.

I love it. Marriage equality wins in a general election (with huge voter turnout) and it's the "Obama electorate" as if it's not a legitimate victory. But back in May, when North Carolina voted 61% for a same-sex marriage ban in a REPUBLICAN PRIMARY she spun it as the people of NC rejecting "non-marriage' and pointed out that NC went for Obama in '08. As if that had any relevance in a primary. http://tinyurl.com/bxy2qs9

That woman is just awful.

Well, if it was Akin, it would be a legitimate vote!

Too soon? LOL

Is Maggie saying that the Mormon and Catholic Churches that donated so generously, have given up? Have they gone broke? Or does the cost of buying new magic undies and Prada slippers prohibit them from flushing any more cash down the anti gay marriage drain?
