Rep. Michele Bachmann says it’s “no secret” the September 11, 2001 attacks and last year’s 9/11 attacks are God’s “hand of judgment,” and warns her colleagues that the best and only thing we can do is pray and “humble” ourselves before “an almighty God.”

Bachmann made these remarks Wednesday evening at a Congressional prayer event called, “Washington: A Man of Prayer,” which included seven Republican Congressmen and one Democrat, Mike McIntyre of North Carolina.

Former GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and Family Research Council president Tony Perkins also spoke at the event.

If the Republican Congresswoman from Minnesota sounds especially creepy in this video, below, it may be because the event was held in the National Statuary Hall, a large, round chamber in the Capitol.

“It’s no secret that our nation may very well be experiencing the hand of judgment.,” Bachmann tells her colleagues. “It’s no secret that we all are concerned that our nation may be in a time of decline. If that is in fact so, what is the answer?,” the Minnesota Congresswoman asks, as she gesticulates repeatedly.

“The answer is what we are doing here today: humbling ourselves before an almighty God, crying out to an almighty God, saying not of ourselves but you, would you save us oh God? We repent of our sins, we turn away from them, we seek you, we seek your ways. That’s something that we’re doing today, that we did on the National Day of Prayer, it’s something that we have chosen to do as well on another landmark day later this year on September 11. Our nation has seen judgment not once but twice on September 11. That’s why we’re going to have ‘9/11 Pray’ on that day. Is there anything better that we can do on that day rather than to humble ourselves and to pray to an almighty God?”

Right Wing Watch notes that Bachmann “used the opportunity to promote the 9/11 prayer event being organized by Birther-king Joseph Farah.”

I've never found anyone who says they are "humbling themselves before gawd" before cameras to be the least bit humble. Nor those who say it outside the camera's presence, for that matter.

She's a pharisee. Funny Jesus didn't say ANYTHING about homosexuals but he had PLENTY to say about those who prayed the loudest to make sure that everyone else heard them!

Curious. The Christian conservatives’ perception of God appears to be one of an ego-centric, malevolent, vindictive, micro-managing sadist — somewhat akin to how many of them treat their wives.

Yet another reason why religious dogma and public policy make poor bedfellows.

She's in the same basket as those freaks from Westboro Baptist Church.

"Congressional prayer event"? This is why the whole fucking civilized world thinks we're idiots.

(what's with the -56 points?)

You are quite correct. I am in the UK, and when the USA comes on the news here nowadays, people just stand watching with their lower jaws hanging open.

In my dreams, I wish Bachmann could be a UK Member of Parliament for a day. She would have the rest of Parliament rolling about on the floor laughing. (Not in a good way.) She is so dumb, it's painful. Boehner showed how dumb he is as well. He put her on the House Intelligence Committee!! Talk about making a political faux pas!

Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTGs60EDhW4 She is sooo out of her comfort zone. CIA Director Brennan can be seen mouthing astonishment at her questions at 4:08. She is a half wit.

P.S. The -56 points is God rating your posts. He/She gets 100 ratings points, because He/She is Almighty Gawd. Michelle had a direct chat with him/her.

I seem to remember that somewhere in her bible it states, God shall not suffer a false prophet to live …

Can you imagine the hordes of political people who will read Botchmann's statements in the past Congressional Records, and think, "What th' …..?????" Oh, I see these right wing rants as true buildups to the Democrats' election victories in 2016 and I personally cannot thank them enough! Talk about political suicide!!!

I always find it funny how these people who go on about "humility" usually do so in the same breath as they elect to speak on behalf of the supposed creator of the universe. And they do it with a straight face. "I'm ever so humble, but the creator of the universe and everything in it wants me to give you a message." Yeah, that's the very definition of humility. And isn't it also funny that the messages the creator keeps getting morons to pass along always seem to chime so melodiously with their own prejudices and fears. It amazes me that god-talk gets a platform. It absolutely baffles me. It is, prima facie, ludicrous. A second's thought is all it takes to come to the conclusion that it is just utter rubbish. A good story, but true? Gimme a break.
