The most useless and uninteresting politician on Twitter, Chuck Grassley, welcomed Pope Benedict XVI to Twitter today, tweeting “U will find it useful and interesting.”
Welcome to Twitter Pope Benedict. U will find it useful and interesting
— ChuckGrassley (@ChuckGrassley) December 3, 2012
Note, Grassley didn’t even include the Pope’s Twitter name in the tweet.
The Vatican formally announced Pope Benedict’s new, official Twitter account today, @pontifex. He will begin tweeting in eight languages (not Latin) beginning December 12. The Pope has already attracted almost 90,000 followers in the few hours since the announcement was made.
Grassley, a Republican U.S. Senator from Iowa, is best-known for his inane tweets that feature odd misspellings, fact-less attacks on President Obama, and overall “incompetence,” as this article from Mashable in April noted:
Sen. Chuck Grassley is probably among the most inept Twitter users on Earth.
From multi-tweet diatribes against the History Channel to pontificating in the form of single consonants (“P,” the senator from Iowa tweeted on Saturday), Grassley provides a lesson in how to reach viral fame through sheer, unrivaled incompetence.

For someone who is such a traditionalist, why isn't he tweeting in Latin only?
