Nike is not the only corporate sponsor of top-ranked multi-millionaire boxer Manny Pacquiao, who came under fire this week for his comments attacking President Obama, marriage, and homosexuality. Also sponsors of the Philippine welterweight champ are Hewlett-Packard, State Street Produce, Hennessy liquor, McDonald’s, San Miguel beer, and Custom Vehicle Wraps, among others. Forbes annually lists Pacquiao as one of the world’s highest-paid athletes, taking in $40 million in 2009, $42 million in 2010, and $25 million in 2011.

Hewlett-Packard is an American multinational information technology corporation who last year signed Manny Pacquiao to a three-year deal worth reportedly one million dollars annually. Also last year, Pacquiao won a deal with one of America’s largest produce manufacturers, State Street Produce, which created a “Pacquiao Produce” line. Late last year Pacquiao also signed a million-dollar deal with Moet Hennessy, makers of the top-selling Cognac brand. And McDonald’s has been sponsoring Pacquiao for at least five years. Of course, there is all the income he receives from media outlets like HBO, who make millions on his fights.

As The New Civil Rights Movement reported today, a poorly-written article this week appeared to have quoted Manny Pacquiao quoting Leviticus, saying gays must be put to death. The interviewer and author of the piece later wrote another poorly-written article stating that Pacquiao did not quote Leviticus, but did state that Pacquiao said, “God’s words first … obey God’s law first before considering the laws of man.”

Pacquiao did attack President Obama for his stance on same-sex marriage, and did attack gays in general, calling them sinners, and claimed the Bible should be used to prohibit same-sex couples from the institution of civil marriage.

While there are many details that remain unclear, what is clear is that boxer Manny Pacquiao has attacked the President of the United States and all homosexuals, along with the institution of marriage, in a biblically-based anti-gay screed. As both a highly-paid representative of Nike, Hewlett-Packard, McDonald’s, Moet-Hennessy, San Miguel Beer, and other well-known international brands, as well as an elected representative of the good people of The Phillippines, Pacquiao has behaved in an unacceptable manner.

Nike and all Pacquiao’s sponsors must investigate, and have both every reason and probable cause to sever their contracts with Pacquiao, based solely on the comments he has made about President Obama and about gay people and marriage.

An email to Pacquiao’s marketing management agent did not receive a reply.

WHEN will a petition be made to make a statement to his sponsors? I'll sign it, and promote it!

Really, Badash? Really?

For the record, I disagree with him on his stance on same sex marriage but really, there's a fine line between sensationalist reporting (especially after you erred the previous day!) and reporting for a good cause.

We did not err the previous day. We reported the story the same way the writers and editors at USA Today, The Village Voice, and L.A. Weekly all eported the exact same story in the exact same manner, and all before The New Civil Rights Movement did.

And we appended the story to ensure it was correct as soon as more facts were available. USA Today, who first reported the story, did not update their piece until at least late yesterday.

More importantly, what remains are Pacquiao's words, which he doses not dispute:

“God’s words first … obey God’s law first before considering the laws of man.”

“God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other.”

“It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old.”

Pacquiao may “love everybody,” and claim to not want to “condemn” anyone, but the “God’s law” and "Sodom and Gomorrah of Old" part still are concerning.

David Badash, I am amazed at how self-righteous so many of you gay and pro-gay activists are and how determined you are to silence anyone who states the truth about the homosexual life style. And I am insulted by your attempt to hijack the Civil Rights Movement to gain acceptance and political and social power.
Do you even have a clue as to what you are really advocating or what you are objecting to?
Perhaps you can tell us just why someone should be deprived of sponsorship money because they have an opinion that does not line up with yours concerning homosexuality. And while you are at it, please explain to us just how homosexuality equals being black or African American, or how healthy homosexual practices are. And please tell us about how respectfully and wholesome homosexuals conduct themselves at their pride parades especially in front of children.
I would also appreciate you telling your readers about the plot to demonize all objectors to homosexuality and glorify homosexuality as laid out by Kirk and Madsen in their 1995 book “After the Ball”. And explain to us why the media does not tell the public the truth about what homosexual orientation involves or about the manner in which the gay activists have infiltrated schools and target little children as young as 3 years old with homosexual propaganda.
Do you actually expect me to believe that you are a better judge as to what is right or appropriate than God? Not everyone has been fooled by your kind of propaganda.
