One thing that I implore other readers to note is the monotonous pattern that I have observed over the years with respect to the political parties of the senators who voted in favour of, and against, the gay marriage bill. Over and over and over, we see that Republicans almost always vote against us, whereas Democrats tend (as a group) to be more socially progressive. The Republican party remains the party of backwardness, ugliness, homophobia, and discrimination. These bastards vote against us despite the fact that they are in most cases unable to hold their own marriages together for more than a few years at a time (look at the records of Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr, and Sonny Bono — these swine are even prepared to alienate their own family members (Gingrich has a gay sister, and Bono had a gay daughter) in their zeal to appease the hard right). Yet these bastards vote against gay marriage and spout endless platitudes about the manner in which gay marriage threatens the institution of marriage in America.

Look at the party affiliations, and draw your own conclusions.

Let me see if I understand this correctly.

Monserrate — a man who beat up his girlfriend, slashed her face open with a piece of broken glass, and dragged her through his apartment as she bled in his grasp — is free to marry the person he loves (assuming that he does in fact love somebody). Yet two gay men or lesbians who have been in a committed relationship for many years cannot marry. Even thugs and pigs such as Monserrate are permitted to marry; yet gay men and lesbians are not permitted to marry.

The signal that this sends is disgusting — marriage is too good for gay New Yorkers.

I wish that I could write that I am incredulous — but I am all too familiar with the hypocrisy that animates animals such as Monserrate.
