One Million Moms Furious ‘Beloved Superheroes Will Be Homosexual’

Post image for One Million Moms Furious ‘Beloved Superheroes Will Be Homosexual’

The anti-gay fake group One Million Moms is furious that some comic book characters ”will soon be coming out of the closet,” and angered that comic book giants Marvel and DC Comics are right now deciding which “one of their characters that children look up to,” which “beloved superheroes will be homosexual.” One Million Moms, whose failed attacks against “lesbian spokesperson” Ellen DeGeneres actually drove shoppers into JC Penney, also sinks to an unacceptable low, claiming adult gay men want to “indoctrate [sic] impressionable young minds,” “desensitize and brainwash” children into “thinking that a gay lifestyle choice is normal and desirable.” And then, they go overboard, claiming, as “Christians, we know that homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:26-27).”

One Million Moms, who have a mere 47,134 Facebook fans ( an increase of only 99 since we wrote about them last week!) and who last week attacked the GAP for their beautiful photo campaign featuring Broadway’s “Book Of Mormon” actor Rory O’Malley and his boyfriend Gerold Schroeder, is actually a fundraising and email harvesting arm of the American Family Association, a certified anti-gay hate group.

The One Million Moms website states:

And to make matters more shocking, Marvel, now owned by Disney, followed DC Comics’ announcement with a surprise of their own. Northstar, Marvel’s first openly gay hero, is going to tie the knot with his boyfriend in the current issue of “Astonishing X-Men.” This is the first same-sex wedding in a superhero comic book.

In “Astonishing X-Men” #50, which hit comic shop shelves Wednesday, Northstar proposes to his boyfriend, Kyle, a fellow snow sports enthusiast who possesses no superpowers. The couple will seal the deal in issue #51, slated for a June 20 release.

“The story of Northstar and Kyle is universal, and at the core of everything I write: a powerful love between two people who have to fight for it against all odds,” said X-Men comic writer Marjorie Liu in a statement.

Ignorantly, One Million Moms adds:

Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to homosexuality at an early age. Comic books would be one of the last places a parent would expect their child to be confronted with homosexual topics that are too complicated for them to understand. Children do not know what straight, homosexual, or coming out of the closet even means, but DC Comics and Marvel are using superheroes to confuse them on this topic to raise questions and awareness of an alternative lifestyle choice. These companies are prompting a premature discussion on sexual orientation.

One Million Moms is under the mistaken idea that children do not understand same-sex relationships and automatically view them as evil, and something that needs to be explained.

Children desire to be just like superheroes. Children mimic superhero actions and even dress up in costumes to resemble these characters as much as possible. Can you imagine little boys saying, “I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men?”

Actually, millions of Americans can “imagine little boys saying, ‘I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men,’” because millions of gay adult men when they were little boys said just that.

Wait til One Million Moms finds out Green Lantern is probably going to be the next comic book character to come out

It would not be entirely out of place to take some pleasure from hearing bigots whine as they lose the argument.

Moot Magazine May 24, 2012 at 6:01 pm

Big surprise. Bigots act like bigots.

I love how they said, "Children do not know what straight, homosexual, or coming out of the closet even means, but DC Comics and Marvel are using superheroes to confuse them on this topic to raise questions and awareness of an alternative lifestyle choice. "

If children don't inherently put sexuality labels on everything then how is showing them two men or two women kissing any more confusing than a man and a woman? It's teaching them acceptance and that two men or two women kissing is just as normal in society as a straight couple. It's just so infuriating to hear them say something like that and then try to twist it into something nefarious.

Exactly they don't put labels on anything like adults do. My kids don't see my mother and her partner as a 'lesbian' couple but a couple like mommy and daddy are, loving and affection and happy with one another. They're pretty much contradicting their own hate speech. Kids don't understand these things, and won't until they're older and probably into puberty unless they ask questions younger than that.

One Million Moms are just stupid with their words. It's not going to alienate these kids, it will teach them to be open minded and accepting of everyone and equality for all. Each generation is getting more laxed and open minded from say my mom's generation and my own. And anyways, that's what Marvel's always been about to begin with. So Northstar marrying is not a big shocker, just more that it took this long for it to happen. I'm glad Marvel and DC are doing this because kids are into comics and it'll make them think for themselves than be robots or puppets for their parents bigoted hatred for things that are not like them.

I could not "thumbs up" this nearly enough times!

I am seriously tired of the blind leading the blind. There are so many ignorant people! UGH! Closed minded individuals that are bitter about their own lives, that they have to point fingers and try to belittle others for having more 'spirit' and 'life'. Love is Love. I identify with being Christian, but I also have morality, common sense and decency. I have a 4 year old son, and by golly, if my son comes out of the closet, I want him to be able to marry the person he loves; Man or Woman, it doesn't matter. If you have a strong love, there is NO ONE that could get in the way. There is NOTHING that could change your mind about someone. I'm sorry, but I believe that GOD loves EVERYONE! God is the ONLY entity that could pass judgement on me, and everyone else in this world. These people that feel like they are validated in pretending that they are the right hand of God, are the ones who will be paying. We are all human. We have faults. We have failed ourselves & God. We are all sinners. #OnlyGodCanJudgeAll

I love how the million bigot organization can't count supposedly they only have 40000 people +or -.
the way to beat them is for us to go out and buy oneof these comics.

Mojohowitz May 24, 2012 at 9:50 pm

Obviously, these ignorant people have never read anything beyond Bible comics. Please, how many gay men loved super heros growing up? What's not to love with all that spandex and rippling muscles? There have ALWAYS been homosexual over-tones throughout the super hero world and comics in general. And what the hell is wrong with that? Truth, justice and the American way for ALL!

noturavguy November 30, 2012 at 12:14 pm

Growing up as a closeted gay boy, Superman was always my personal fantasy favorite!

fwilms May 24, 2012 at 10:03 pm

Children understand what love is. They just have to teach their one-million-mothers.

westsideed May 24, 2012 at 10:39 pm

I would be ashamed to call any of these women 'Mom'

BeerandOnion May 25, 2012 at 8:01 am

Not everyone in the nation is a Christian, so what the Bible says is of no import. Second, and more to the point — Being gay is okay.

Steve_in_MA May 25, 2012 at 10:09 am

Now, if One Million Moms is so in support of following the Bibles commands, then they should know that, as it dictates that a woman's place is in the home and subservient to men, they need to disband, go home, and stand in the kitchen until one of us needs a sandwich.

I really admire your journalism skills in this article. Journalists and all reporters in general strive to keep their language objective so they don't take sides, and I'm very impressed in how you didn't use any loaded or objective words….

False. You used *VERY* subjective and loaded words. This is a terribly written article, and honestly it has the validity of a high-school kid's blog that uses a few sources.

eroissyfr May 25, 2012 at 10:49 am

Since most of the article was directly taken from quotes provided by those million moms I fail to see how the journalist could be held accountable for the loaded and objective words OR the wording of the quotes. That is what makes them quotes..

duh

dakkendoofer May 25, 2012 at 11:02 am

1. they called the group fake.
2. "whose failed attacks"
3. "also sinks to an unacceptable low"
4. " they go overboard"
5. "who have a mere 47,134 Facebook fans ( an increase of only 99 since we wrote about them last week!)"

… Really, you're going to argue with someone with a b.a. in writing and a year of journalism experience?

"duh"

DenguyFL May 25, 2012 at 1:34 pm

Northstar was created in 1979 and was intended to be gay from his inception. Marvel would only let his sexuality be hinted out. Finally, Northstar explicitly came out in 1992. Isn't this a little bit late?

Hashhero June 1, 2012 at 3:51 pm

Lady, nobody wants to be like Northstar. Not even Canadian kids want to be members of Alpha Flight.
