Dear Congressman Stockman,
Perhaps in your previous days as a U.S. Congressman, it was considered perfectly acceptable for a U.S. Congressman to malign the President of the United States by comparing him to an Iraqi dictator who gassed and otherwise murdered hundreds of thousands if not millions of his own people, but in 21st century America, to which you have returned to serve your nation and the citizens of Texas, it is not.
Your comment on Fox News Tuesday night, which was even rebuffed by the Fox News anchor, was despicable.
President Obama is not using children as human shields, as you suggested.
This is just one image of what it looked like in Iraq after Saddam Hussein killed his own people, including these children:
And this is what it looked like yesterday, on stage, just after President Obama delivered his remarks on curbing gun violence and gun-related deaths, like the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, not far from my old hometown:
I trust you can tell the difference.
Do you know who else is “using children”? Your comrades at the NRA, who Tuesday — the same day you accused the President of using children as human shields — used the president’s children to advance their campaign of hate, by releasing an ad claiming the President doesn’t care if anyone else’s children get shot, he only cares if his own children get shot.
You, and for that matter, your friends at the NRA, owe the President and the American people, a huge apology.
Don’t worry, we’re not holding our breath, but we will hold our families closer tonight, knowing your ilk has a vote in Congress, and access to platforms like Fox News to spew your lies and hate, making America just a little bit worse off.
Shame on you.
