Video: Oprah Winfrey Interviews Mothers Of 11-Year-Old Boys Who Committed Suicide
I’ve written about child suicides here, here, and here. Half of all school bullying is anti-gay, and “schools are ignoring it.” It’s a national emergency, and not enough is being done. Congress is just starting to take it seriously, but it will take a long time for these bills to pass, and longer for them to become effective. Oprah took up the issue Wednesday. Watch the video:

THIS IS TERRIBLE AND SSCHOOLS NEED TO DO SOMETHING MORE ABOUT IT AND BY THE WAY TWEET ME!!! LOL
I wonder if schools are afraid to address the problem because they're afraid one of the anti-gay groups or churches will come after them for it. Part of their attack does include being vehemently opposed to schools telling kids that it's okay to be gay.
Maybe my high school VP was ahead of his time. Kids called me f***ing dyke well within earshot of teachers, at one point while I was doing an oral report, and they did nothing. But the VP heard about it and called me into his office, we talked and he agreed that it fell under sexual harassment and I could file a formal complaint. That was in 1994.
Even with GSAs in schools, the administration and teachers need to be educated and perhaps forced to stop this type of bullying. They would never allow a student to call another student the n word, but somehow calling another student a fag or a lesbian or the like is totally acceptable to them and just seen as juvenile behavior. How many more suicides will it take for them to wake up? One more is too many.
