Stephen Fry joined hundreds today in London to protest Vladimir Putin‘s dangerous war on Russia’s gay people and anti-gay laws, and to highlight the dangers LGBT Olympic athletes and allies will face if they attend the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

Today Fry “protested on the issue, along with hundreds of others, outside Downing Street,” The Independent reports on Fry’s comments today about the crisis in Russia:

He told reporters: “What they have done is unleashed thugs who have done unspeakable things to teenagers, lured them, beaten them, humiliated them, tortured them. This continues to be the case.

“Lesbians have been raped ‘correctively’ – as the horrible phrase is. The police are doing nothing about it.

“The fact that the law says it is illegal to discuss homosexuality as a normal practice to anybody under the age of 18 is a preposterous thing.”

Fry is considered a British national treasure, and this week wrote “An Open Letter to David Cameron and the IOC,” in which he compared Putin’s war on gays to Hitler’s war on Jews, and called for an “absolute ban” on the Olympics in Russia, demanding the 2014 Olympic Winter Games be moved.

Cameron feels "deep concern" and President Obama says no one is more offended than he is at the Russian's bigotry. Mr. President, I'd say the gay people in Russia living under this terror are more offended than you are. Mr. Cameron I suspect they have even deeper concerns. What do these two men do about it? They say let's go win some useless bits of metal in Sochi. I'm disgusted with the lack of leadership on this. As a Jew who lost family in the Holocaust I say Never Again! And if you think Putin intends to stop now, you're living in a dream world. First came the Nuremberg laws in Nazi Germany, but we went to Berlin in 1936 anyway and competed while Jews, Gays, Gypsies, anyone deemed undesirable were being rounded up. Now we intend to do this again? Turn the blind eye because of some lousy games? Human Rights is not a game. BOYCOTT!

A few weeks ago, I would have agreed with the need to move the games. Since then, I read a post that said if the IOC were to do so, there would be even more violence against our brothers and sisters. Just another 'excuse' like they need any. Hopefully, those that can get to the games, could request asylum. Each time we win medals, we plant huge kisses on our teammates. Let's not forget frequent butt slaps either. Hopefully, NBC's cameras will broadcast this to our comrades in Russia and accidentally have broadcast issues when they receive their medals.
