Pope Benedict Hurls Unhinged Assault In His Anti-Gay Marriage Holy War

Pope Benedict XVI today in a Christmas address to the College of Cardinals unleashed an unhinged assault on all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, and gay marriage, from his home in the Vatican. During his reign, Benedict has become ever-increasingly hostile to LGBT people and same-sex marriage. In April, as reported, the Vatican reached out to form a coalition with other religions and called on them to join in a worldwide holy war against same-sex marriage, claiming that proliferation of equality “is not a good thing for society,” and will lead to “confusion.”

But today’s address was startling in the intensity of its anti-gay rhetoric, going so far as to state same-sex marriage threatens the “essence of the human creature,” and thus, mankind’s future.

Noting “the family is still strong and vibrant today,” Pope Benedict strongly questioned the ability of  a member of “the western world” to “bind oneself for a lifetime” in marriage. And he warned when “such commitment is repudiated, the key figures of human existence likewise vanish: father, mother, child – essential elements of the experience of being human are lost.”

“According to the biblical creation account, being created by God as male and female pertains to the essence of the human creature,” the Pope said. “This duality is an essential aspect of what being human is all about, as ordained by God. This very duality as something previously given is what is now disputed.”

The words of the creation account: “male and female he created them” (Gen 1:27) no longer apply. No, what applies now is this: it was not God who created them male and female – hitherto society did this, now we decide for ourselves. Man and woman as created realities, as the nature of the human being, no longer exist. Man calls his nature into question. From now on he is merely spirit and will. The manipulation of nature, which we deplore today where our environment is concerned, now becomes man’s fundamental choice where he himself is concerned. From now on there is only the abstract human being, who chooses for himself what his nature is to be. Man and woman in their created state as complementary versions of what it means to be human are disputed. But if there is no pre-ordained duality of man and woman in creation, then neither is the family any longer a reality established by creation. Likewise, the child has lost the place he had occupied hitherto and the dignity pertaining to him.

Pope Benedict railed against same-sex marriage as an attack on the “traditional” family, and lamented that children adopted by same-sex couples “become an object to which people have a right and which they have a right to obtain.” Benedict claimed this “creation” causes “human dignity” to  disappear.

“It was the second time in a week that Benedict has taken on the question of gay marriage, which is dividing France, and which scored big electoral wins in the United States last month,” the AP in the Huffington Post reported. “In his recently released annual peace message, Benedict said gay marriage, like abortion and euthanasia, was a threat to world peace.”

Maybe it is time for GLBT people to stand up and call for war against the vatican.

Just because it's completely disconnected from everything science knows about human sexuality and is a malicious bigotry proclamation from the leader of the world's single largest anti-gay hate group is no reason to think that it's unhinged, right?

Any day now, any day.

I dislike Ratzinger intensely and disagree with him profoundly, and as usual, he's speaking in theo-babble – but I'd hardly describe this as "unhinged".

He professes to believe an invisible guy in the sky simultaneously endorses Matthew 19:21 and endorses a papal king in a gilded throne. His cognitive dissonance is only surpassed by his delusional state.

At the link below is the full text of the "Reichskonkordat," the political treaty between the Vatican and Adolf Hitler. At the time this treaty was signed, the anti-Jewish racial laws were already in force in Nazi Germany:
Here is an example of what is in the treaty:
Article 3
In order to foster good relations between the Holy See and the German Reich, an apostolic nuncio will reside in the capital of the German Reich and an ambassador of the German Reich at the Holy See. http://www.concordatwatch.eu/showkb.php?org_id=85

The only threat to world peace is the Pope. Where was all this compassion for children when the Vatican allowed and covered up sexual abuse of children for so many years? The Pope and his church become more irrelevant with each passing day……….

Alex_Parrish December 21, 2012 at 6:22 pm

This is truly unhinged ranting. Fortunately, it continues the trend of the R.C. church of making itself more and more irrelevant. Keep it up Mr. Vicar of Christ; every word brings your church closer to extinction and the world closer to a better place.

Perhaps anti-gay activist Benedict needs to put a little more time into dealing with pedophile priests and a little less time into reviling and bashing loving gay families? As a Christian, it is disturbing to me that he chooses the season of our Lord's birth to spread hostility and division. He should know better.

Actually, Jesus was not born during the Winter months.

The disconnect between the Pope and reality, the Pope and Morality and just plain common sense is growing every day. What is the Vatican so scared of? Perhaps that gay people know more than anybody else that Catholicism is based on bullshit and lies and is rotted to the very center of its moral core. Every time the Pope talks about the gays it seems this feeble old pedophile is getting more desperate; he's certainly fooling nobody under the age of 60 anymore.

It's power. His Highness-Holiness is afraid that he's losing his power. He's afraid that the RCC is losing its power. What to do? Yell and scream louder and louder. If louder, surely people will hear. Correct?

The definition of insanity is doing the very same things over and over and louder and louder and expecting different results. He must be insane.

Diogenes_Arktos December 22, 2012 at 1:47 am

Between his "peace" letter and today's rant, there was a front-page editorial in the Vatican newspaper, where it was said that same-sex couples inhabit a "different reality". I think they finally got something right – but not in the way they were intending it.

The Ratbutt nazi child molester Pope can Kiss My A__!!

Hugh_Oxford December 22, 2012 at 2:05 pm

Beautiful and true words from The Pope. Thank goodness someone is prepared to speak truth to power.

cipher December 22, 2012 at 9:06 pm

Yes, of course; "truth" = "what I want to hear". And to which "power" do you presume him to be speaking – the worldwide gay conspiracy?

Idiot.

jessielansdel December 22, 2012 at 4:47 pm

This pope is a nasty and malicious hypocrite. And as for blessing that disgusting creature from Uganda who is pushing for the Kill the Gays bill, he is condoning murder in that case.

Benedict XVI must have learned a lot in during his experience as a Youth. His mastery of the "Big Lie" propaganda technique is reflected by the number of parrots he has repeating the same lie, mostly his creatures (Archbishops, bishops, and even one former radical feminist who has wormed her way onto the staff of L'Osservatore Romano as the sole female voice in the VAtican official organ), or affiliates, such as the nuts from NOM, though it's amazing how many other Christianists have been howling the same Lie.

However, the simple Truth about marriage is that over the past 175 years in Western societies, and due primarily to the influence of the Women's Movement, marriage laws have evolved away from being the chattel ownership of a wife by a husband ("the two shall become one, and that one is the husband" is how an English jurisprudence expert put it), to being a partnership of equals, with gender-neutral bundle of rights and responsibilities. Marriage laws in Western societies are largely already gender neutral, but the last hurdle is in a single area – "connubium." This is a word that Benedict should understand, and it means "right to marry." Notwithstanding Benedict's "Big Lie" about how making connubium gender neutral somehow changes the nature of marriage, all it does is expand the right to marry on a gender-neutral basis, completing the process begun in the mid 1830's by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Ernestine Rose. Not a single other thing about marriage is changed that has not already been changed, and for the better (unless one believes in patriarchal supremacy).
