More than one in ten of most religious Americans would allow a woman to die rather than allow her an abortion when her life is threatened, a new poll shows. The Public Religion Research Institute poll finds overall, 10% of Americans would allow a woman to die, but rates are often higher, especially among white Evangelicals — about 13% — as you can see on the graphic, above.
The study finds that 86% of all Americans believe women should be able to obtain an abortion in cases of danger to the woman’s health, and 79% in cases of rape.
Clearly, the views of Congressmen Todd Akin and Paul Ryan are far from the mainstream.

Your headline comes in exactly backwards — it would support your point better if the header read "Only 10% of Religious Americans. . . ."
It doesn't matter one bit what other people think about abortion. What matters is what the pregnant woman thinks! It's called freedom to determine for herself what she decides regarding her body. It's not the business of men in the Tea Bag Party who go to men's rooms for same-gender sex (like ex-senator Larry Craig).
The report doesn't directly support the contention in the headline anyway. The statistics in this study report that 10% of all Americans oppose abortion rights under those circumstances. The breakdown of Americans by religious affiliation or absence thereof is more nuanced.
