Rachel Maddow last night delivered two excellent and in-depth segments about the “ex-gay” movement, how it came into being, and why the anti-gay right has been able to ruin lives because of so-called “ex-gay” science. Frankly, there is so much “connecting the dots” here, even I learned a lot.
Many modern-day LGBTs simply ignore news about the “ex-gay” movement because it’s quackery, but Maddow explains how anti-gay hate groups are actuality based on research from Dr. Robert L. Spitzer and others.
Maddow also interviews Gabriel Arana, who broke the story about Dr. Spitzer denouncing his 2001 study, thus effectively debunking the entire ex-gay industry. Arana’s story in The America Prospect, “My So-Called Ex-Gay Life,” may be Pulitzer-worthy. It’s that important.
What does the ex-gay industry have to do with you? Every anti-gay hate group, every anti-gay organization, much of religion, basically everyone who denounces homosexuality and LGBT rights, like marriage equality and the right to serve in the military, or the right to not be fired for being gay, stems from the ex-gay industry and their “work.”
This is the must-see TV you must watch. It’s fascinating and shocking and if more people knew about this, the state of LGBT rights and acceptance would be decades ahead.
You must watch both!
And after, read Wayne Besen’s excellent piece: “Commentary: Still the Iconoclast, Dr. Robert Spitzer Renounces His Infamous ‘Ex-Gay’ Study.”

Thorough and fact-based. Can't wait for people to denounce it as 'slanted.'
Anti-gay bigotry is anti-gay bigotry. Scientifically enlightened people do not harbor it. Gay-bashing bigots are like birthers; facts don't matter to them. If they aren't pushing the idea that a gay person can be "cured," they are aggressively alleging that homosexuality is "only a behavior."
Beside the heartache that these loony anti-gay groups and insensitive Republican politicians, there are no side effects from being gay. For you to have an aliment there has to be a negative consequence from that ailment. Being gay does not fall into that category because being gay will NOT cause you physical pain, shorten life span etc…. The only side effect is the bull **** you receive from others because they do not agree with what you do in the bedroom. So who really as a mental disease?

I've been an activist for almost my entire life, and through the years, these charlatans, crooks and quacks have the blood of thousands of TLBG folks who ended their lives due to the abuse they've imposed on their victims.
Lives are ruined, psyches damaged, and entire families have been torn apart.
When will the federal government finally step in and shut these crooks down under the quackery laws?
