The Religious Right just released a short film that attacks Hillary Clinton for supporting the rights of gay people as “human rights,” and advocates for the criminalization of homosexuals in this country and abroad. Top anti-gay activists, some from Southern Poverty Law Center certified anti-gay hate groups in the film,  Is Our Government Promoting Immorality?call homosexuality a “deadly lifestyle” while showing a video of Hillary Clinton discussing the Obama administration’s mandate to  protect LGBT rights around the world.

The film features Family Research Council (FRC) “researcher” Peter Sprigg, Southern Baptist Convention’s Richard Land and right-wing author Michael Brown, along with hosts from Truth in Action Ministries (formerly Coral Ridge Ministries) Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy and Jerry Newcombe.

Sprigg late last year called President Obama’s international LGBT rights policy “fanatical,” and labeled it “cultural imperialism,” and said there is not universal acceptance for gay rights. In 2010, Sprigg, arguing against repeal of DADT, falsely claimed “If the law is overturned and open homosexuals are welcomed into the military, the number of homosexuals in the armed forces can only increase — leading to a corresponding increase in same-sex sexual assaults.”

Richard Land, as The New Civil Rights Movement reported last week, appears in another short film funded by the Religious Right, which compared straight devout Christians to the Titanic, and homosexuals to the iceberg that sank the ocean liner.

Brian Tashman at Right Wing Watch, who provided the video, below, notes that “Brown attacked the ‘outrageous’ dissemination of ‘our gay activist standard’.”

“Whenever you go against God’s law, when you challenge God’s law and you have the effrontery and the hubris of trying to redefine one of God’s institutions like marriage you are putting yourself in the place of judgment,” Land concluded, “there is no question in my mind, God is already judging America and will judge her more harshly as we continue to move down this path towards sexual paganization.”

Note that NOM's Robert George 1) thinks gay intimacy should be illegal; 2) is on the Family Research Council Board and 3) was recently appointed by Boehner to the US Commission for International Religious Freedom and that 4) Romney has signed George's NOM pledge. Defeating Romney and other Republicans is imperative.

Go against God's law? What about "thou shall not have any gods before me". Ever heard of money? The greatest commandment, sir, is to love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself. That pretty much puts you going against God's law. Have a nice day :)

I'm not sure what he means by "sexual paganization," but as a practicing pagan I resent the implication that there's something wrong with paganization. Perhaps if there were more pagans there would be more tolerance or even celebration of difference, more care for the Earth, more equality between the sexes, etc., etc. The Charge of the Star Goddess states "all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals." We could certainly use more love and pleasure in the world.
