Same-sex parenting is a form of child abuse claims the Illinois Family Institute’s “Cultural Analyst,” Laurie Higgins, who points to avowed anti-gay activist Robert Oscar Lopez’s piece, “Same-Sex Parenting: Child Abuse?”
Lopez writes for the Witherspoon Institute — the folks who paid for the discredited Regnerus anti-gay “parenting” study — and Higgins, before she came to the Illinois Family Institute (IFI), “worked full-time for eight years in Deerfield High School’s writing center in Deerfield, Illinois.”
Calling it “the unvarnished truth,” Higgins states that Lopez says, “raising children in deliberately motherless or fatherless homosexual families constitutes a form of child abuse.”
“Exacerbating that abuse,” Higgins writes, “is the societal climate in which influential social structures have conspired to render it socially and emotionally impossible for children to express truthfully how they feel about their homosexual family structures unless what they have to say is unequivocally positive.”
Of course, this is all false.
Almost every major medical organization has agreed that children raised by same-sex parents develop no worse, and some studies actually state they develop better than their peers raised by opposite-sex parents.
Higgins continues use Lopez to pummel her points home with more falsehoods
“Lopez describes what all conservative activists already know: The homosexual community and its ideological allies have become a tyrannical, oppressive, poisonous cultural force that compels conformity and compounds the suffering of children intentionally denied mothers or fathers.”
Yes, there’s a reason the Illinois Family Institute is listed among the Southern Poverty Law Center’s anti-gay hate groups: Laurie Higgins is a big part of that reason.
Thanks to our friends at GLAAD, we know that Higgins:
– Refers to homosexuality as “a disordering of the sexual impulse”
– Equates defeating “evil” LGBT rights movement with defeating slavery and Naziism
– Says people must speak out against “deviant” gays: “volitional homosexual behavior is deviant, immoral behavior regardless of its etiology. That moral claim is not only a legitimate but also a necessary moral claim to make publicly. And we should be making it with at least the same frequency, fervor, clarity, and tenacity with which others are making the claim that volitional homosexual acts are moral and good.”
– Refers to homosexuality as “destructive foolishness,” right after she equates it with child sacrifice
And that’s just for starters.
By the way, a quick look at the Illinois Family Institute’s latest IRS form 990, which you can easily find online, reveals total revenue of $340,600, and total paid in salaries of $188,820. Total expenses not including salaries were $170,557, which means, yes, they’re spending more than they’re making, and it would appear that they pretty much exist to pay the salaries of their employees. Who knows why they spent over $170,000 on expenses.
