President Obama on Monday said what no other president has during an inaugural address, that, “Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law.” On Tuesday, the President’s press secretary said President Obama still believes marriage is a state, not federal issue. While that’s unacceptable in our march to be “treated like anyone else under the law,” because some states will forever continue to discriminate against LGBT people, just as they would have against interracial couples, on this President Obama clearly can take a stand.
