“Now that “Morning Joe” regular Harold Ford Jr. and his potential primary challenge to her are no more than a bad memory, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand finally appeared on the show today.
“Gillibrand didn’t break any news during her appearance, which lasted just over 12 minutes – a not insignificant feat.”
Gillibrand is a smart, dedicated servant to New Yorkers and to the LGBTQ community. See the entire video to understand how smart and passionate and in-touch with the issues Senator Gillibrand is.
New Hampshire voters in town meetings across the state are deciding this week whether or not they want the opportunity to vote on a constitutional amendment defining marriage, which could effectively overturn New Hampshire’s marriage equality law. While the results are non-binding, they are a barometer not to be ignored, and there are strong results [...]
“This moment was captured the day after thanksgiving. We bought our flip cam two days before and were testing it out. We were on our way to the kitchen when Calen stopped us to ask for help washing his hands.”
If you visited Facebook this morning, you could have joined “I HATE GAYS,” “Kill All Gays,” and “AnTi GaYs!!!!!!!!!!!!!” — just three examples of many anti-gay hate groups that called Facebook home. But no longer.
This morning, at 11:30 AM EST, I published, “Facebook Or Hate Book?” and listed a total of fifteen anti-gay hate groups [...]
Facebook, the six-year old social networking site that helps more than 350 million friends, families, colleagues, and companies keep in touch, is fast becoming the online home to another type of social network: anti-gay hate groups.
Fast-forming, often created by people who post false profiles just to gain the ability to create their hate group, anti-gay [...]
Is Hiram Monserrate, the expelled and now-former New York State Senator who was convicted of domestic abuse, using anti-gay rhetoric to beat Jose Peralta, his opponent in the upcoming special election? His supporters certainly are. New York Daily News writer Elizabeth Benjamin just reported the above flyer was distributed in churches in Monserrate’s former [...]
California State Senator, father of four, Roy Ashburn, who has a 100% anti-gay voting record, pulled over, arrested after leaving “Faces,” a gay bar in Sacramento.
Hypocrisy sucks. Anti-gay hypocrisy is up there among the worst types.
And we’re all tired of it.
This is an example of the absolute worst hypocrisy.
California GOP state Senator Roy Ashburn, a [...]
Yes, our friends Jonathan Howard and Gregory Jones (above) were featured in this New York Times story yesterday about the first day of granting same-sex marriage licenses in Washington, D.C.
Via The New York Times:
“On a typical day the office processes 10 licenses, court officials said. By late Wednesday afternoon, more than 140 couples had filed [...]
Eleanor Holmes Norton (D) threw a celebratory party, as couples who plan to be legally wed under the District’s new law looked on, the Gay Men’s Chorus performed a selection of songs.
As promised, here are some photos of Jonathan Howard and Gregory Jones, the same-sex couple who filed this morning to receive their marriage license in Washington, D.C. An incredibly exciting day, in which over one hundred couples (including an opposite-sex couple) stood in line to register.
(Remember, Jon and Greg are trying to win Crate and [...]
Remember that lovely couple, Jonathan Howard and Gregory Jones, who are in Crate and Barrel’s “Ultimate Wedding Contest?” Well, here’s a local new report on them! Today, they were the twentieth couple to get their marriage license in Washington, D.C.! Truly an historic day. I am so happy for them!
I’ll have more on their day [...]
"As an aside, Mullen's and Gates' notion of a year-long study is a non-starter. A lot can change in a year, like control of Congress."

David Mixner Gets A Few Things Off His Chest.
If you don't read David Mixner's blog daily, you're doing yourself a disservice. David is a civil rights icon, author, former Clinton White House senior advisor, and fellow Hell's Kitchen neighbor. And a hell of a great guy whose support of our community seems boundless.
"Eric Massa (D-NY) ... is clearly gay and looney!"
"Political Guru Nate Silver has issued his latest projections for the results of the 2010 Senate Races. The brilliant prognosticator is projecting that the Democrats will lose just four seats in the elections. My recent forecast had Democrats losing seven seats. Let's hope that Nate is right and I am not."
"Sean Hayes came out in The Advocate and you think he could have done it with a little more grace and support for his community. It was not pretty as Queerty.com reports."
Then, sign up on the newly-formed Facebook group, "WE DON'T WANT DISCRIMINATION IN OUR STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES!" whose mission is, "to protect the right of educators, administrators, and students to choose their own sexual partners AND to be treated fairly by the public universities and colleges of Virginia."
Not surprisingly, they have a lot more fans then Virginia's Ken Cuccinelli.
I'll have more on the entire Virgina LGBTQ rights story later today, just wanted to share this with you first!
Peralta, who (as far as we know) has never violently attacked the woman he lives with and then dragged her out of the apartment against her will (on camera) and then driven her to a hospital that he thought was outside of city limits, supports the rights of two people who don't violently attack each other to get married, even if they both have penises (or neither of them have penises). Apparently the man who did slash his girlfriend's face open thinks that such marriages will somehow damage his eventual marriage to the woman he attacked.
Gotta love it!
And, good enough for me. If I lived in Queens, I'd vote for Peralta!
NYT: Same-Sex Couples Tax Questions - Ask This Week!
I love the New York Times. This week, they offer, "Taking Tax Questions From Same-Sex Couples," featuring Tina Salandra, "who specializes in tax planning for gay and lesbian couples." She will answer reader questions this week. Perfect timing!
Breaking: Senator Lieberman To Introduce DADT Repeal Bill.
This has been the talk for many months now, but The Advocate's Kerry Eleveld is reporting today that Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) will introduce a bill to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Lieberman is a long-time opponent of the law, and voted against it back in 1993.
Lieberman's recent healthcare reform stance, reviled by many ion the left, conveniently puts him in a unique position. Eleveld quotes an SLDN spokesperson as saying, "Sen. Lieberman is also in a good position to work on a bipartisan bill introduction and to win broader bipartisan support in Congress.”
"Gay people are not vessels for votes." -- Nick Herbert, British MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Conservative Party.
Today, at the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C., conservative British author and editor, and blogger at The Atlantic, Andrew Sullivan debates National Organization for Marriage (NOM) President Maggie Gallagher. British MP Nick Herbert gave an incredible introduction and set the stage.
The Cato Institute is a libertarian think tank which claims to exist "to broaden the parameters of public policy debate to allow consideration of the traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, free markets, and peace."
Come back later today -- I'll have audio up shortly after the debate ends.
