Originally, I wanted to write a piece about a challenging yet inspiring event that happened during our trip to Las Vegas. But now I see there’s an even bigger picture. So, here you have it: Homophobia, Taught At An Early Age: a two-parter! Part One: Sunday night, Caleb and I were enjoying a couple of [...]

A new Harris Interactive survey just released finds that gay men and lesbians are more likely than their heterosexual counterparts to read and write blogs, and to belong to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. And those numbers are increasing. 54% (up from 51% in march of 2008,) of gay men and lesbians read [...]

WaPo Readers: 67% Say “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Survey “Out Of Line”

An unscientific Washington Post poll currently shows 67% of respondents checked “yes” to the question, “Is the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ survey out of line?” Of course, you’re welcome to weigh in with your own opinion, but in a related Washington Post article, “U.S. military says questions about gays would help if ‘don’t ask’ were [...]

The Pentagon’s DADT Survey’s Five Most Offensive Questions

Before I give you what I believe to be the worst, most unacceptable five questions from the Pentagon’s survey that will be used to determine how allowing openly gay and lesbian servicemembers in will affect our “military readiness,” let me just say that I cannot believe how this thing is worded. Every question could end [...]

The Real Purpose Of Marriage: Sex, Not Love – America’s Right-Wing’s Ridiculous Anti-Marriage Equality Arguments

July 2, 2010 3:34 PM by David Badash

Another ridiculous and disturbing argument America’s Right Wing makes against same-sex marriage goes to the very core of how conservatives view the institution of marriage. Marriage in the past was used to united kingdoms, secure wealth, subjugate women and treat them as property (chattel,) and so on. It is only in recent times that the concept of marriage has become about love, not money. Except for the anti-marriage equality folks on the Right, who still insist marriage is not about love, but about sex.

The Real Purpose Of Marriage: Sex, Not Love is the fifth and final part in our week-long series, America’s Right-Wing’s Ridiculous Anti-Marriage Equality Arguments.

Michelle Malkin: “Google to Pay Heterosexuals Less Than Homosexuals”

Thumbnail image for Michelle Malkin: “Google to Pay Heterosexuals Less Than Homosexuals”

(Image and caption on Michelle Malkin’s website. Nice, huh?) While extreme Right Wing bigot and self-hating demagogue Michelle Malkin complains about her parenting responsibilities, tweeting, “I am my kids’ summer day camp chauffeur. My minivan needs a meter. ,” her guest blogger Doug Powers penned this nasty piece of homophobic, right-wing ridiculousness: “Google to Pay [...]

Gay Couples Don’t Need Marriage Because They Never Have Children By Accident

June 30, 2010 6:20 PM by David Badash
Thumbnail image for Gay Couples Don’t Need Marriage Because They Never Have Children By Accident

To America’s Right Wing, the idea that a same-sex couple could be allowed to marry and raise children goes just too far. That two parents are available to love and bring up a child, especially an adopted child, is not a rational concept for them. The needs and benefits to the child are unimportant. They would rather make up science to try to come up with a reason against it.

Gay Couples Don’t Need Marriage Because They Never Have Children By Accident is part three in our week-long series, America’s Right-Wing’s Ridiculous Anti-Marriage Equality Arguments.

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Why One Year Ago Today Seaman August Provost Was Murdered

June 30, 2010 10:25 AM by David Badash
Thumbnail image for Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Why One Year Ago Today Seaman August Provost Was Murdered

You’ll remember that one year ago today, U.S. Navy Seaman August Provost, a black, gay sailor, was found murdered, his body shot three times, gagged, bound, and burned. While there were clear signs this was a hate crime, the U.S. Navy refused to label is as such. Even the Congressional Black Caucus demanded a full [...]

“Values” vs. Science: America’s Right-Wing’s Ridiculous Anti-Marriage Equality Arguments

June 29, 2010 1:54 PM by David Badash
Thumbnail image for “Values” vs. Science: America’s Right-Wing’s Ridiculous Anti-Marriage Equality Arguments

America’s Right Wing has steeped itself in a vessel of religion, history, and its own bigotry. It refuses to look at any new information or science, and certainly none that would shed a different light than what it needs Americans to believe to further its stranglehold on the intangibility of “morality” — and against America’s LGBT community.

“Values” vs. Science is part two in our week-long series, “America’s Right-Wing’s Ridiculous Anti-Marriage Equality Arguments.” [...]

Gallup: Gay Relationships Top Issue Dividing Republicans, Democrats

May 27, 2010 4:17 PM by David Badash
Thumbnail image for Gallup: Gay Relationships Top Issue Dividing Republicans, Democrats

According to a new Gallup survey, same-sex relationships are the number one issue dividing Republicans and Democrats/Independents. Only 35% of Republicans, compared to 61% of Democrats and 61% of Independents, find gay relationships “morally acceptable,” with abortion coming in as the second largest area of disagreement. (Anyone hear 2010 and 2012 election rhetoric and attack [...]
