The Future (Of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Repeal) Will Be Televised

The Future (Of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Repeal) Will Be Televised.

Senator John McCain, a former laissez-faire, let-the-military-leaders-decide on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” kind of guy, is of course grandstanding now, and flip-flopping, leading the charge against repeal, now that the military’s leaders are supporting repeal. And McCain has now demanded that the Senate debate be televised.

Wonk Room reports McCain “would ‘without a doubt’ support a filibuster of the entire defense authorization bill if Democrats successfully attached an amendment repealing the ban on open gay and lesbian military service.”

“I’ll do everything in my power,” McCain said. “I’m going to do everything I can to support the men and women of the military and to fight what is clearly a political agenda.”

“Well now, sources close to the Senate Armed Services Committee are telling me that McCain has asked Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-MI) that the vote on DADT repeal be in “open session.” Levin agreed and has said that the vote will occur sometime after lunch.”

This is a total political move. What McCain’s stupidity doesn’t recognize is that 78% of the country wants DADT repealed, and now the Senate will get to use this as their own campaign commercials. And even better, we’ll get to see the lies and bigotry on YouTube for generations to come.
