Welcome To The 12th Annual Freedom to Marry Week!
February 8-14

It was only a matter of time. And so the war begins.

Via Politico:

“Ads will air in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Iowa.

“The biggest argument — and the biggest lie — put forward by those who want to redefine marriage is that it’s not going to have any affect on you. ‘Why should you care? It’s not going to have any effect on your marriage,” said NOM executive director Brian Brown. “In state after state we’ve seen same-sex marriage directly conflict with people’s religious beliefs.”

The Human Rights Campaign has denounced this ad and the obvious lies it makes. Read the #FACTS here.

And call your local TV station when you see this ad and tell them what you really think. It’s time again to say it: Stop H8.

This $1.5 ad was funded  by Maggie Gallagher’s National Organization for Marriage. Take a look at what Maggie thinks of you. And take action. Ideas? Write them in the comment section below, please! We cannot lose all the ground we’ve gained in the past week.

What a load of… Well you get the idea.

They make it sound like when and if I ever get married that my husband and I will seek out the most fundamentalist Christian family we can and force them to let us live with them. That's the furthest thing from the truth of course. I don't care if any church wants to recognize my right to get married. All I want is for the law to recognize that right. That is in no way forcing myself into their lives.

What I really find offensive is the "doctor" stating she has to choose between her faith and her career. Why? Currently I can go to a lawyer and draw up paperwork designating anyone I want GLBT or straight to make medical decisions for me when incapacitated. How is that different that having a legal piece of paper saying that this man is my husband and he has the right to make those decisions on my behalf? Doctors all across the country face conflicts between their beliefs and who or what their patient may be. For example is an African-American doctor going to refuse treatment to a white supremacist? Probably not the best example, but the only one I can think of quickly.

qmuser, I think she's referring to the ruling in California last year(?) that requires all doctors to treat all patients equally regardless of sexual orientation (Or, you know, to be treated like a human being). It stemmed from a fertility doctor who refused to inseminate a lesbian couple. They sued and won.

That could be. With all the omissions, half truths, and bold face lies how are we to really know what they mean?

If the KKK had had a slick PR firm on their side, their anti-miscegenation ads would've looked a lot like this anti-gay marriage ad. Just substitute 'interracial marriage' for 'gay marriage'. They're just bigots all dressed up lookin' for an audience.

Hey, Patrick, I agree. 50 years later, the next generation is pulling their grandparents tricks out from an old trunk. Thanks for your comments here and on Facebook!

HRC's web page does a very good job of debunking each of the examples cited in the video. The doctor's problem has nothing to do with marriage. The church that was renting out it's pavilion to the public for secular activities also took public funds to help maintain the structure and just does not want to rent to gays. Only the mom that does not like her kid learning about gays in school applied to the marriage debate and then only remotely. She should home school her kid if she wants to keep him ignorant to the realities of life.

NOM has a reply to HRC's "attack." It does not refute any of the points HRC makes. It more like a "I know you are, but what am I" kind of comeback.

Absolutely true. Their antics are just off-target. They only trick they have is fear, and sadly, the ones who fall for it aren't thinking for themselves. Or too shrouded in their own hate & ignorance. Thanks for sharing this!

All of these "problems" are only problems if you're a discriminatory, hate-mongering bigot. That's what maggie Gallagher essentially says. It's ludicrous. You've all been telling me this video will backfire and expose the haters for whom they are. You were all right.

Gay marraige is NOT about hating gays. Genes play a role, however, you are really talking about changing the standard of human behaviour. Most people realize that some gays have no choice and they should have civil rights. However, marraige is more than just an arrrangement. It is a standard of what humans should aspire to. What makes me a woman is not my ability to have a child. The only reason men and women seek each other as mates is not because of sex. Why should a young man disengage from his mother and make his way in the world? Why should he find a new woman? Just because of sex. Now the new standard is why bother have sex with men. Homosexuality can be taught to some degree.
Look at the new liberal world the great gender experiment is not working to well and this will just push it over the top.

Tricia,
I took the liberty of responding to your comment in a new blog post. I felt your thoughts were representative, respectfully, of an out-dated mode of thinking and the larger community deserved to see a response.

You can read it here: http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/gay-marriage...

I welcome your response, again.
