I could marry a pillow, too. The point being that the marriage would not be legal as a pillow could not consent nor could it sign the marriage license. The fight isn't over gays being allowed to marry. They already can. It's over legal recognition of their union on a federal, state and local level.

Given the fact that one of Obama's miscreant czars wants to extend the right of counsel to animals, I'd say the door is indeed open for Fido to end up on a marriage certificate.
