Dan Savage, who, with his husband created the It Gets better project, today said via Twitter, “10 yrs and deportation seemed excessive — and looked like blame-shifting. 30 days? Far, far too lenient.”

Dharun Ravi, the former Rutgers student who was Tyler Clementi‘s roommate, was sentenced to 30 days in jail, plus three-years probation, fines totaling about $11,000, and will not face deportation.
