What does black have to do with it?
Read the book. There is a huge stigma among African Americans regarding homosexuality. That was/is a huge obstacle for the author and African Americans alike.
I'm sorry, but didn't you watch the interview? Don Lemon said there is a HUGE stigma among black people about homosexuality, particularly regarding males. He said for black males, being gay is "the worst thing you could be." It's an unavoidable message that is passed down thru generations.
When someone is being honest and "transparent," it's important to PAY ATTENTION and have empathy with him/her. It doesn't appear you were paying attention to what he was saying. Thank you.
Wasn't he married?
