A email sent by Virginia’s Loudoun County Republican Committee, with a graphic collage of Halloween-themed images including a “Zombie Obama” with a bullet through his head, and an image of Nancy Pelosi, disfigured and also made to look like a zombie, along with what apparently are zombies holding “Obama” and “Change” signs, has drawn the ire of Democrats and even been denounced by The Republican Party of Virginia.
The blog Too Conservative first publicly criticized the mailer.
This cartoon montage just arrived as part of an LCRC email blast. I am no fan of Barack Obama, but putting up a photo of him as a zombie with a bullet hole in his head???????????? Like him or not he is the legitimately elected the President of the United States and Commander in Chief of our armed services in a time of war. THIS IS DISGUSTING AND SHAMEFUL. Someone should send this to the US Secret Service.
Someone did, and the Secret Service apparently is investigating.
New York Magazine writes,
As part of an invitation to a Halloween parade, the Loudoun County GOP photoshopped President Obama as a zombie who has been shot in the face. After being condemned by the state Democratic Party, the state Republican Party, and Republican governor Bob McDonnell, they have decided that, in retrospect, it maybe wasn’t the most appropriate imagery.
The New York Daily News adds,
Mark Sell, chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee, backtracked and issued an apology.
“The Loudoun County Republican Committee yesterday sent an email to its members that represented a light-hearted attempt to inject satire humor into the Halloween holiday,” Sell says in a statement. “Apparently, some individuals have interpreted an image of Barack Obama that appeared within the email as intending to portray the president as a victim of a violent crime. Nothing could be further from the truth, and we deeply and sincerely apologize to the president and anyone who viewed the image if that was the impression that was left. The LCRC deplores any effort to display, suggest or promote violence against the president or any other political figure.”
