Michigan State Lawmaker Alerts Constituents Local Newspaper Editor Is Gay, Has A Husband
Newly-elected GOP State Rep. Gary Glenn of Michigan took to Twitter and Facebook to “alert” constituents about an “agenda”…
The photo above tells you everything you probably need to know about Gary Glenn. Elected as a Michigan state representative in November, the Republican is flanked on the left by Mike Huckabee, and on the right by Pastor Stacey Swimp.Â
Glenn wrote Michigan’s (currently) constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Huckabee, the virulently anti-gay Baptist minister and likely GOP presidential candidate endorsed Glenn, and Swimp is an anti-LGBT activist who derailed a gay rights bill in December because gay people “never had to drink out of an LGBT water fountain.”
Glenn, the president of the American Family Association of Michigan, has continued his assault on the LGBT community, even as he now purports to represent them in the state legislature.
On Sunday, Glenn shared this “agenda alert” about the promotion of a journalist to news editor of a local Michigan newspaper, on Facebook and Twitter:
Agenda Alert — Midland Daily News’ new news editor: political science major who “lives in Midland with (his)… http://t.co/nz4yJobcHO
— Gary Glenn (@GaryGlennUS) March 22, 2015
What “agenda”? Why, the gay one, apparently.
The statement is a chilling, albeit subtle, attack on LGBT people and families, and journalism. It’s a veiled threat to a newly-promoted editor. And it’s ugly and juvenile, especially from a lawmaker.
